Talk:New Game Enhancements
From SWG Wiki
[edit] when do we start?
As an initial question, I am wondering when we should start updating the wiki with the changes for the new game enhancements that were announced in [http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=nge_ann&message.id=4
Letter to the Community ] and STAR WARS GALAXIES NEW GAME ENHANCEMENTS - GENERAL FAQ.
What should we begin based on Test Center info and what should we wait until they have gone live to handle?
My initial idea would be to only create new pages off to the side for the really new stuff (such as the iconic professions) and postpone updating current pages until after live.
- My thoughts on this are (because of the extremely short time to the launch of this) that this page should be a repository of all relevent information on the NGE. There will be very little if any testing since, according to Tiggs herself, the expected launch for this is November 15th. --Moosephat 19:01, 3 Nov 2005 (CET)
- Yes. I think we must start new pages for each new profession and skills. Since… well lets old be a history. For future generations, if there will be such…--Stratege 19:14, 3 Nov 2005 (CET)
- I'd say start right away. The first thing I thought when reading the NGE was "that's going to make a LOT of work at the wiki obsolete :(". We're going to have to go through all the old profession, ability, skill, skill mod pages and either mark them as out of date with a new template or delete them. Which should it be? Marked or deleted? --Influenza 19:18, 3 Nov 2005 (CET)
- I think that decision needs to wait until we see if there is any carry over of skill mods, abilities, and the like. I have a feeling that keeping around a lot of the old stuff will be hard on people doing searches and the like. Maybe we can create a namespace for any obsolete stuff and move it there so it is out of the main site but available for mining. --SwordMage 19:35, 3 Nov 2005 (CET)
- As far as professions, skills, and combat goes... everything we now know is obsolete. Quests, NPC's, non-combat related crafted items, and dungeon guides more than likely will be unchanged (or changed with minor differences). So as far as making substantial changes to SWG Wiki, we should wait at a minimum until we get some Test Center exposure to this. In the meantime, I think this would be an excellent place for those curious/apprehensive/angery to get some solid verified information on what is known about the NGE as the amount of misinformation being spread grows exponentially. --Moosephat 20:02, 3 Nov 2005 (CET)
- When I said "right away," I meant "soon as we have information" (i.e. soon as it goes to TC). Sorry if that was unclear... I didn't literally mean right now :). --Influenza 20:07, 3 Nov 2005 (CET)
Maybe we should wait until the changes take place in the "live" game instead of the Test Center. Because, the changes that take place in the Test Center might not be the exact end results. Since the changes will take place on the 15th of Nov, which is less than 2 weeks away, we don't have to wait too long. Putting a "hold" on updating current profession pages is a good idea. Also, I think that maybe we should have an announcement on the front page telling users what is happening. --M.A.X. 20:06, 3 Nov 2005 (CET)
- My main concern with waiting for Live is that these are HUGE changes, literally making SWG a new game. I'd say start on pages for the new professions, abilities, etc. as soon as we have solid information, but hold off on "outdating" current pages until live. --Influenza 20:09, 3 Nov 2005 (CET)
- And as for the front page, anyone with sysop priveleges can edit Template:Announcements. Give it a try :). --Influenza 20:09, 3 Nov 2005 (CET)
How about adding a new navigation point on the main titled "Game Enhancements (Testing)" --ahrubik 15:39 3 Nov 2005 (CST)
- ./cry I got to know about it from the Brawler Correspondents Post in the TC Forum. I read a rumor about this in the Jedi forum in 4 point size font but it sounded to far fetched. Who might have guessed that they are realy doing this. THERE IS NOT INFO about this on the Corr. Forum. Even looking at it optimistically, THERE IS STILL NO INFO about REAL FACTs. But I got this into a thread before Tiggs posted that she would "forward them".
- It is hard to describe how I feel about the handling of this information. I am realy willing to give them the chance to make the game more star warsy but they are loosing everything what was and is unique innovative and special for this MMORPG.
NGE went live yesterday . . . Jury is still out for me, but I have to agree the special nuiances that made SWG great are pretty much gone. --Brimestar 12:34, 16 Nov 2005 (CST)
[edit] New formats
Let's get some dialogues going on formatting the new NGE pages. I've started one on skill trees at /Skill tree format. We should also start talks on ability tables, skill pages, and special ability pages, using the work on Smuggler (Prof) as a starting point. -- Influenza 23:30, 9 Nov 2005 (CET) Italic text
[edit] TC vs Live
After logging in many times on the TC over the past week, there has been many changes. Because of this, when NGE goes live, most of what players have experienced initially on the TC might not transfer over. I know that we all should already know this, but I just wanted to remind everyone (myself) so when NGE goes live, we all might want to take another look at our contributions to make sure that they are up-to-date. --M.A.X. 17:26, 14 Nov 2005 (CET)
